Both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were debated and signed in the same second-floor Assembly Room — the actual chairs and the inkstand used are still there. Free, but timed-entry tickets are required March through December; grab a same-day ticket from the Independence Visitor Center starting at 8:30am since walk-up availability disappears fast in summer.

Pat's King of Steaks. Pat Olivieri is credited with inventing the cheesesteak here in 1930, originally just chopped beef on an Italian roll before cheese was added years later. Open 24 hours, walk-up window only, no seating inside — order fast and confidently ("whiz wit" gets Cheez Whiz and onions) or the line behind you will let you know.

DiNic's Roast Pork (Reading Terminal Market). Won a James Beard "America's Classics" award in 2013 for the roast pork sandwich alone — order it "wet" with the broccoli rabe and sharp provolone stacked in, not on the side. Fourteen dollars, and the line snakes visibly through the market at lunch; it's genuinely one of the longer waits inside Reading Terminal on a weekday.
